A group of people have been ordered to pay almost £8,000 for littering in Medway.

Together, 26 people have been fined a total of £7,600 by magistrates for failing to pay fixed penalty notices for littering.

The offences all took place between January and February this year.

Not acceptable to litter

Cllr Tris Osborne, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder covering Enforcement, said: “We all have a responsibility to tidy up after ourselves, and it is not acceptable to litter. Lots of people work hard to keep Medway clean and tidy, and we will not let a small minority ruin that. We will continue to ensure that fines are issued to anyone who is caught littering in Medway.”

26 cases were heard at East Berkshire Magistrates’ Court Slough on 4 September 2023. One person returned a guilty plea and the rest of the cases were proved in absence.

• Dean Baldwin, 50, of Quebec, Bingley was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 24 February 2023.
• Andy Beaumont, of Thomas Wyatt Way, Wrotham was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 16 February 2023.
• Bogdan Bobeica, 33, of Purbeck Drive, Corby was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen discarding food at Medway Services in Gillingham on 7 February 2023.
• Janet Bradley, of Shannon Court, London was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 18 February 2023.
• Dominic Browne, 47, of Boundary Road, Chatham was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 17 February 2023.
• Louise Cain, of Stamford Close, Potters Bar was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 18 February 2023.
• Philip Carter, 47, of The Uplands, Pontefract was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 15 February 2023
• Jason Conroy, 48, of Salvesen Grove, Edinburgh was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 21 February 2023.
• Maria Copper, 39, of Post Terrace, Cromwell Road of was ordered to pay £100 and given a conditional discharge after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 8 February 2023.
• Kirsty Dunkley, 27, of Camps Road, Haverhill was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 7 February 2023.
• Adam Gordon, 34, of Midsummer Road, Snodland was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at a car park in London Road, Gillingham on 14 February 2023.
• Stefka Ivanowa Kamburova, of Collingham Road, London was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt outside a petrol station on Maidstone Road, Chatham on 14 February 2023.
• Lorena Lescheian, 31, of Moorhouse Road, Harrow was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 18 February 2023.
• Petre Lescheian, 32, of Moorhouse Road, Harrow was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 18 February 2023.
• Boniface Mwaura, 47, of Keightley Road, Leicester was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 6 February 2023.
• Ionut Petrescu, 43, of Gainsborough Road was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 4 February 2023.
• Jemma Prior, 30, of Millside Gardens, Kilwinning was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 17 February 2023.
• Luke Reeder, 35, of Crosier Court, Upchurch was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 24 February 2023.
• Daniel Robb, 40, of Bellevue Avenue, Ramsgate was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 21 February 2023.
• Garry Shaw, 55, of Merchants Court, Bingley was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 24 February 2023.
• Adrian Doru Mugurel Sinescu, of Gainsborough Road, Corby was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 4 February 2023.
• Jack Smith, 28, of The Mound, London was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 7 February 2023.
• Richard Vinicombe, 53, of Fort Pitt Street, Chatham, was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at a car park in Riverside Gardens, Chatham on 22 February 2023.
• Lisa Cansdale, 42, of Newnham Close, Gillingham was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at a car park in London Road, Gillingham 24 January 2023.
• Luke Reeder, 35, of Harold Avenue, Gillingham was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 16 January 2023.
• David Rose, of Canberra Road, London was ordered to pay £300 after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice after they were seen dropping a cigarette butt at Medway Services in Gillingham on 23 January 2023.
