Special event will showcase support for carers in Medway

Published: Tuesday, 18th November 2025

Calling all carers… and yes that means you too, if you look after a family member or friend!

This month, Medway Council is hosting an informative carers marketplace event, where those who provide care in the community can meet a range of council services and get information and guidance to support them in their role as a carer.

Our Adult Social Care team will be on hand at the former Wilkos shop, on the ground floor of the Pentagon Shopping Centre in Chatham, on Tuesday, 25 November, from 10.30am to 2.30pm, with carers invited to drop in. Carers can also reserve a spot at the event via this link.

The team is keen to meet those in our community who look after or care for others, so they can connect directly with our services and speak with service representatives to get advice, guidance and information on support they may be eligible for as a carer.

The overall aim of the event is focused on helping and nurturing our carers, and giving them an opportunity to share concerns and ask questions.

Medway Council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Teresa Murray, said: “Not everyone who cares for someone thinks they’re classed as a carer, but we know how much you are doing and can offer support to help you, and we can work with those you care for too. Carers are selfless people who give their time and energy to others, to the extent they might sometimes overlook themselves, but they play a vital role and it’s important we recognise their contribution. If you look after a family member or friend – or know someone who does – we would love to meet them and make sure they know what’s available to help at our marketplace event in Chatham on Tuesday, 25 November.”

The informal marketplace style event will include stalls with council staff  and other organisations who support Carers on hand to chat, as well as a confidential space if anyone wants to speak privately about an issue or flag a concern.

The following services will be providing stalls on the day:

  • Adult Social Care including;
    • social work teams, financial assessments, and client financial affairs
    • direct payments, shared lives and transition from children to adults
    • occupational therapy and respite services
    • engagement team and many more…
  • Housing and Benefits
  • Adaptations
  • Adult Education and Public Health

A number of organisations from across Medway will also be attending including Carers First, Medway Voluntary Action, Kent Association for the Blind and Healthwatch.

Carers can also sign-up to receive emails at changetogether@medway.gov.uk for details of future events and ways they can help to shape the future of Adult Social Care.
