Some of Medway’s most vulnerable residents will receive additional financial support this winter to help with their energy bills.
Pensioners in Medway who are not eligible for Pension Credit but are in receipt of housing benefit, or use the council’s Council Tax Reduction scheme, will receive a payment of £200 per household. This is being funded through the government’s Household Support Fund.
In total, we have identified more than 1,600 eligible pensioner households in Medway who will receive the payment, which will be paid out via the Post Office Pay Out System.
We will be writing to all eligible households to confirm payment.
Residents are reminded that Medway Council will never ask for your bank details to make payments from the Household Support Fund.
Committed to doing everything that we can
Cllr Vince Maple, Leader of Medway Council, said: “We are committed to doing everything that we can to ensure we continue to support our residents through the ongoing cost of living crisis. Winter can be one of the hardest times of the year for many, so I’m really pleased we are utilising the Household Support Fund to issue this £200 payment to some of our most vulnerable residents.
“It is really important that people know that there is lots of other support out there as well. I would encourage anyone who feels as if they need help to visit the Household Help page on our website today, where we have pulled together all of the resources and support on offer to people.”
